Angelika Schanda works as a Program Manager at the Bertalanffy Center for the Study of Systems Science. She specializes in systemic social impact and effective cooperation. Her experience in the nonprofit and business sectors during 15 years convinced her that no single approach or actor can bring upon lasting change on their own. Therefore, Angelika’s key interests are to analyze problems from a systems perspective as well as to build systemic partnerships between diverse groups. Towards that end, her blog YoungModeler.net brings together young systems researchers and practitioners from all over the world.

Markus F. Peschl

From controlling and managing innovation to “learning from the future”

WORKSHOP FACILITATOR

Markus F. Peschl is professor of cognitive science, innovation, and philosophy of science at the University of Vienna, Department of Philosophy, and at the Vienna Cognitive Science Hub. His areas of research and expertise include innovation, cognitive science, organizational theory and strategy, and design, as well as spaces for knowledge and innovation work (Enabling Spaces). He is one of the founders of the interfaculty, interdisciplinary Vienna Cognitive Science Hub and the head of the International Middle European Joint Masters Program in Cognitive Science (MEi: CogSci) and the Extension Curriculum on Innovation.

He spent several years at the University of California, San Diego, and at the University of Sussex for postdoctoral research. Furthermore, he studied philosophy in France. Markus Peschl is the cofounder and CSO (Chief Science Officer) of theLivingCore Innovation and Knowledge Architects and holds several guest professorships at European Universities (Berlin, Bratislava, etc.); he has won various prizes for his innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Her work focuses on issues related to labour market and social policy as well as gender equality. Before joining arbeit plus, Clara was a researcher at the Competence Center for Nonprofit Organizations and Social Entrepreneurship at WU Vienna and at the Institute for Political Science at University of Vienna. She holds a Master’s degree in Socioeconomics.

Dr. Rania Wazir is a mathematician and freelance data scientist.  She is vice chairperson of the Vienna Data Science Group (VDSG), and coordinator of the VDSG’s data4good initiative, which aims at increasing awareness of the benefits and pitfalls of digital technologies, and works with non-profits on data-based projects.  Her most recent projects include social media monitoring for Amnesty International Italy and wahlbeobachtung.org, and mathematical optimization problems in the field of Energy efficiency. She has an extensive international experience as university lecturer on mathematics, statistics, and data mining; and is also co-author of “Handbuch Data Science: Mit Datenanalyse und Machine Learning Wert aus Daten generieren », published by Hanser Verlag in 2019.

Christian Piska works at the University of Vienna and the Danube University Krems as an expert in public law as well as economic, environmental and European law. Numerous institutions use his expertise in current legal issues. As a technology fan, he has always been challenged by the question of the legal framework and regulatory approaches for new technologies. Together with Hon.-Prof. Dr. Schmelz he is the founder and head of the cooperation platform ThinkTank TechnologLegal. building the future, which deals with the legal implications of disruptive technologies. He is the founder of an interdisciplinary cooperation platform that develops smart legal solutions for blockchain applications (http://smartblockchain.at). Most recently, together with Dr. Völkel Prof. Piska published the handbook "Blockchain rules", which also targets the international dimension of this phenomenon. Wilfried Baumann graduated from the University of Technology Vienna.

One of his responsibilities at the Austrian Computer Science, well known for the ECDL (European computer driving license), is the "Biber Computational Thinking Contest" for pupils that is held once a year. He also participates in the EU funded EDLRIS projects for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and with the cooperation of the Raspberry Pi foundation he is working to establish the Code Club initiative in Austria where young people meet on a regular basis to code.
